Does Dodoma offer potential to international and domestic tourism?

For the past 2 years, the Dodoma Regional Commissioner’s Office, along with the University of Dodoma (which financed the project and provided a team of experts and researchers) supported by the Vice President’s Office, has been comprehensively exploring the potential for tourism within the Dodoma region, in central Tanzania.

As a result, a new 200-page book entitled "Tourism Development Strategy for the Dodoma Region" has been published which aims to unlock new horizons for Tanzania's Tourism. The publication marks a significant new chapter in boosting the tourism sector within the Dodoma Region and Tanzania as a whole.

Chapters include :

• An overview of the tourism sector in Tanzania (inc. data unavailable elsewhere)

• Potential tourist itineraries in Dodoma

• Marketing strategy for Dodoma as a tourist hub

• Promotion of green spaces and recreational

• Recommended tourism development strategies

Dodoma is surprisingly blessed with a wide array of tourist attractions, including historical sites, natural wonders and cultural experiences. For example, there are historical sites where Freedom fighters from Mozambique, Zambia, Namibia and South Africa stayed during the struggle for the independence of their countries.

At present, visitors are drawn to Dodoma for business, conferences, cultural and natural attractions and interestingly, wine.

Rosemary Staki Senyamule, Dodoma Regional Commissioner stated, "From 2019, when most of the government offices officially moved to the region, Dodoma has witnessed massive developments in infrastructure and urbanisation. The Dodoma landscape contains some of the most beautiful series of mountains, rocks, grassland and high biodiversity of flora and fauna. The local communities also offer a great cultural experience"

In collaboration with the Tanzania Tourism Sector Safety and Protection (TTSSP), which provides independent support to any would-be investors in tourism related businesses

to host an event to launch this book to share a fresh vision, abundant opportunities, and innovative strategies set to catalyze tourism growth in Dodoma as a Tanzania’s capital city.
