Tropic Helicopters is proud to announce the launch of its Zanzibar operations, introducing fast, seamless, and environmentally conscious helicopter travel across Zanzibar, Pemba, the Swahili Coast, and mainland Tanzania.
They have recently opened an additional office on Zanzibar with 2 Tanzanian registered helicopters permanently based on the island.
As Zanzibar and Pemba Islands continue to attract large numbers of visitors each year, the need for faster, smoother and more reliable transfers has never been greater. Tropic Helicopters transforms how guests move between Zanzibar, Pemba and the Tanzanian mainland, replacing long journeys with swift, scenic flights.
With more than 20 years of aviation experience across East Africa, Tropic Helicopters combines safety, reliability, and premium service with a spirit of adventure, transforming what were once long road and boat journeys into breathtaking flights over turquoise waters and remote islands.
Backed by the expertise of Tropic Air Kenya and Tropic Helicopters Tanzania, the operation is tailored to Zanzibar’s growing luxury tourism market, offering private transfers, island-hopping adventures, scenic flights, and bespoke safari connections.
Two permanently based Airbus H120 helicopters, chosen for their exceptionally low noise footprint, will support the operation with carefully managed flight paths and approved landing sites designed to minimise environmental impact.
In addition to tourism services, Tropic Helicopters will also support the Zanzibar Government with emergency medical evacuation and search-and-rescue capability, strengthening island-wide emergency response services.

Leading Tropic Helicopters Zanzibar is Maryke Pretorius, a respected figure in African luxury travel and aviation.
With over 11 years in helicopter operations and 20 years in high-end tourism, she brings unmatched expertise and insight to our landmark launch.
