New lodge - Ngorongoro, Lemala

Lemala Camps and Lodges, the renowned owner and operator of authentic safari accommodations in Tanzania and Uganda, is delighted to unveil its latest addition, Lemala Osonjoi Lodge opening March 2025.

A stunning lodge on the edge of the iconic Ngorongoro Crater, this new tranquil retreat offers guests an immersive experience, showcasing nature's beauty from design-driven accommodations grounded by sophistication with a sense of place.

The Ngorongoro Crater is famous for its breathtaking landscapes and abundant wildlife, and the new Lemala Osonjoi Lodge is positioned to take advantage of the incomparable location on the Crater rim, less than 250 meters from the current Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp.

Lemala Osonjoi Lodge main area enjoys impressive views of the crater floor below, with access to the floor of the Crater via the less-used Lemala access road down to the eastern quadrant of the renowned UNESCO World Heritage site. Lemala Osonjoi Lodge guests, therefore, gain privileged access to prime game viewing opportunities as they are always amongst the first to arrive on the Crater floor each morning – and the last to leave each evening.

Each suite is thoughtfully furnished with Lemala's signature plush bedding, soft lighting, and natural materials, creating an atmosphere that invites guests to unwind and embrace a slower pace of life. Intimate seating areas, adorned with luxurious throws and cushions, provide the perfect setting for savoring a cup of locally sourced coffee or indulging in a good book, glancing up occasionally to savor the ever-changing light and shadows cast by clouds on the Crater floor.

Perched at close to 8,000 feet above sea level on the highlands around the Ngorongoro Crater, which means cool days and chilly nights, Lemala Osonjoi Lodge offers slow-burning log stoves in its suites that use sustainably sourced firewood, of course. The property's communal pool is heated using specially developed solar panels and sits behind floor-to-ceiling windows with expansive views over this picturesque wildlife territory.

At Lemala Osonjoi Lodge, we recognize and celebrate the unique environment of the Ngorongoro Highlands, the chilly mornings and crisp mountain air, the swirling mists and haunting Spanish moss, and embrace them all. Its design ethos is to harvest light via huge window spaces to create seamless indoor/outdoor flow while at the same time heating all spaces to allow guests to sit back and luxuriate in their surroundings.

"Our goal is to provide a comfortable and relaxed guest experience worthy of the exceptional Ngorongoro Crater," said Leanne Haigh, CEO. "With so much to see and experience outdoors, our guests sometimes comment that they wished they had just that little longer to indulge in rest and linger while staying with us. We have designed Osanjoi to provide them with plenty of private nooks, crannies, and spaces to immerse themselves in the luxury of quiet time and contemplation."
