I arrived at Kili Seasons after a pleasant 45 minute transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport at the end of a somewhat exhausting 24 hr journey from the UK. I was in real need of rest and relaxation - and Kili Seasons was about to deliver these and more,

writes Tim Henshall

The newly upgraded road surprised even my driver, who expressed delight and surprise in equal measure. This being completed has reduced the previously bouncy journey time by 10 minutes.

Heading past the guarded gates, the property emerges from the delightful vegetation set along the drive up to the reception.

The pristine white-painted main building is created in Dutch South African style and houses more than 20 guest rooms.

Greeted by General Manager, Ernest, your stay gets off to a very relaxed start in the reception area adorned with artefacts, antiquities and modern golf equipment (the property is located right on the edge of Kilimanjaro Golf Club, after all).

With reception set in the middle of the building, two 100m long corridors stretch away to the guest rooms. The corridor is minimalist (in a stylish way) and once into your bedroom you notice that this look has been maintained.

The generous-sized bedroom has a delightful ensuite kitted out with modern bathroom fittings in keeping with the overall feel of the property.

Leaving the main building to the rear, you can saunter down to the humorously named Kili Beach - a sanded area where its possible to sit and relax on garden furniture that's dotted around this large patio style area.

Walk back the other way and you are drawn to two more Dutch/South African style structures separated by a really inviting infinity swimming pool, complete with stone backdrop and mini-waterfall.

To the right is the Bar, Spa and Gym, so I took the opportunity to visit one out of the three. No prizes for guessing which.

On the left hand side, is the dining room with indoor and outdoor seating (see top pic). The kitchen is also open fronted, allowing you to see the experts at work as they prepare your culinary treats. The food was beautifully prepared and presented, with a menu that included everything from burgers and pizzas, all the way to more sophisticated dishes. There is also an impressive wine list. It's worth noting that the restaurant is open to non-residents

I must mention the outstanding skills of the restaurant waiting staff, whose top-level training was very evident and much appreciated.

The property also offers four private villas (which really should be renamed manor houses, as they are huge - offering four double bedrooms each), with sumptuous communal areas, massive kitchens, private butlers (upon request) and the option for private dining.

Neighbouring the high quality 18-hole Kilimanjaro Golf Club, the property will obviously appeal to golfers. With equipment and caddies available via the lodge, the course offers a longer (or even dedicated) staff for golfing groups, with the option to add in game-drives in Arusha NP, Tarangire NP or beyond easily arranged.

In summary, whilst the architecture might not match everyone's tastes (it did mine), I think Kili Seasons offers an exceptional start/end location as its conveniently located for Kilimanjaro International. The setting is delightful, with excellent service and accommodation options. Oh, and the rates are very appealing too.
