Serengeti Balloon Safaris appoint new Sustainability Manager

Serengeti Balloon Safaris (SBS) are delighted to announce the appointment of Roy Mushobozi as our Sustainability Manager, an entirely new role at SBS and one which reflects our commitment to ensuring our business has a positive impact in the wider tourism industry and beyond.

Since SBS was founded, it has always strived to have the lightest footprint possible with the greatest positive impact both for the customers who fly with us, as well as for our staff and neighbouring communities.

To further develop our mission, Roy joins SBS with a wealth of specialist experience having previously been the programme manager for the NGO Sunrise Of Life Canada in Tanzania where he oversaw the implementation of multiple programmes. Prior to this he was the partnerships and innovation manager for VSO in Tanzania and before that he worked for Raleigh International where he was responsible for the planning, organization and delivery of the UK government funded International Citizen Service Entrepreneur (ICSE) programme in Tanzania.

MD of SBS John Corse commented;

“We are thrilled to have Roy join us with his broad ranging experience in the sustainability sector. We have great ambitions as a business to develop new and exciting processes both within SBS and beyond and Roy will help us deliver these. It is our ambition to create positive change within our sector of ballooning as well as in the wider tourism industry in Tanzania. For us, it is all about creating a legacy we are proud of.”

Our current sustainability and conservation commitment includes:

Travelife - we are accredited by the industry's leading sustainability auditor Travelife receiving regular checks to company processes and day to day running to ensure we are doing all we can.

Serengeti De-snaring project - Annually we donate in excess of $9KUSD per annum to this small, but highly impactful NGO which helps to reduce bushmeat poaching within the Serengeti National Park.

Carbon Tanzania - We offset all of the carbon we produce both from the balloons to the vehicles we use. We also offset any carbon generated from international flights which we have to take for business / marketing purposes. Last year this equated to a figure in excess of $10KUSD which is then used to restore biodiversity in Tanzania.

Community projects - Empowering through sport - we support a wide range of local community based project such as the Legends Youth Basketball teams in Arusha. By providing smart kit and sponsorship, these teams bring together over 150 boys and girls together to compete and have fun together.
