A joint venture between the Tanzania Tourism Sector Safety & Protection Unit (TTSSP) and Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) is set to create 10 new Tourist Information Centres in major ports of entry and at significant attractions, to provide visitors with an enhanced tourism experience.
Centres will provide up-to-date information about all the country's tourist attractions, safety issues, important tourism events, and other crucial services in a welcoming and professional environment.
Each of the centres will house highly skilled staff. who will have extensive expertise in tourism matters, as well as being able to speak a variety of languages (to include English, Swahili, French, German and Chinese). Each centre will provide fast internet and interactive touch screens along with maps, videos and other printed information.
A specialist team from the Centres that will conduct in-depth and on-going research to identify areas with the potential to become new attractions (e.g., unique caves, hidden waterfalls, unique traditions and customs, areas with rare wildlife etc).
Dr. Majaliwa Maswila, the Chief Executive Secretary at TTSSP explained, "This team will collaborate with natural and cultural experts, as well as travel professionals to ensure that there are tourism packages that combine new and existing attractions, targeting various tourist groups".
The scheme plans to form strategic partnerships with tour operators, hotels, airlines, and transport companies, whilst establishing a robust system for collecting data on the number of tourists, areas they visit, their feedback, and safety issues.
